Lord of Peace

Do you wish to have peace in your life? Do you want to have the kind of peace that says “No matter what happens today, I will rest in the peace of God”? That kind of peace can be found in the person of Jesus Christ.

The end of 2 Thessalonians tells us in plain terms that the “Lord of Peace“, namely Jesus Christ, is the one who can grant us peace, not just in moments that are unsettled, but in “every way“. Paul closes this book with a most wonderful blessing of peace on all who might read this letter. To dig deeper into this peace, let’s look at a framework that can show us how to pursue that peace.

  1. Peace is found only in the cross of Christ (Colossians 1:20)
  2. Peace is granted to those who pray (Philippians 4:6-7)
  3. Peace is granted to those who obey (Philippians 4:9)
  4. Peace is granted to those who listen to the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:6)
  5. Peace is granted to those who live in peace (2 Corinthians 13:11)
  6. Peace is granted to those who are growing in a true, experiential knowledge of Christ (2 Peter 1:2)
  7. Peace is granted to those who trust in God, and His sovereign control over all things (Isaiah 26:3,4)

When life’s storms come crashing down on you, the Word can comfort your soul. Psalm 119 is a great example of proclamations of anguish that are soothed by the balm of God’s loving peace. That peace in every circumstance is a gracious gift of God.
